Dr. Nancy Rappaport…On The Couch
My friend Margaret brought my attention to Dr. Nancy Rappaport’s story and invited me to come see her one woman play with her in Irvington, NY at 3pm this Sunday. Nancy is another “shrink with breast cancer,” so Margaret thought we might have a lot in common. I am looking forward to getting to know her and her work better. However, what I know so far is that, like me, she too has found healing in writing her own narrative about her personal experience with breast cancer. As a medical doctor, she provides wonderful insight into how medical professionals can improve their bedside manner, and how the smallest things can make the biggest difference. I found that to be so true as well. Actually, it’s one of the things I was most struck by as I became a professional “patient” after years of training and experience on the other side. I absolutely love it when people find creative ways to re-invent or expand themselves/evolve through life experiences, and I am so looking forward to seeing “Regeneration!” For those in the Boston area, you can also catch her up at Harvard Tuesday night:
