In lieu of gifts, we would gratefully appreciate any donation large or small to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Legacy of Love fundraiser established in memory of Aaron and Rebecca. All donations made to the link provided will be split between Aaron's MSK fundraiser for Rare Cancer Research - Cycle for Survival and Rebecca's MSK Fundraiser for Metastatic Breast Cancer Research - The Cancer Couch Foundation.
Our Legacy of Love Story:
In 2019, Metastatic Breast Cancer and Ewings Sarcoma took away the loves of our lives, Rebecca and Aaron. Months later our 2 grieving families, living one mile apart with 5 children ranging in ages from 5 to 15 were plunged into the darkness and isolation of Covid.
During this dark time, Brett and I connected via text to share Covid survival, grief support and single parenting strategies. Slowly but surely the light of a beautiful friendship reentered our lives. You see we had only met briefly before our tragedies struck, so we didn’t really know each other. But when we met in person, that light turned into lightning and love broke through the darkness. We would eventually start dating when we both felt we were ready, recognizing that there are no timelines or roadmaps for restarting one’s life after catastrophic loss. Brett and I did know from our marriages to Rebecca and Aaron exactly what a beautiful love really looks and feels like - and we knew we had found it again! Fast forward several years later…and Brett and I are engaged to be married in November of 2024.
As we plan our rapidly approaching wedding, we're constantly evaluating special ways to honor Rebecca and Aaron and to incorporate them into our union. Here's what we came up with - we are designating our reception as an MSK fundraiser through The Cancer Couch Foundation and Cycle for Survival. Rebecca started The Cancer Couch Foundation in 2015 after her Metastatic Breast Cancer diagnosis and as the President of the Foundation, I'm pleased to announce that we just crossed the $6 Million level in funded MBC research. Brett has been a passionate fundraiser for rare cancer research in Aaron's honor through Cycle for Survival. The Team Pedaling Sunshine that she is a part of has raised over $3 Million. We have named our combined wedding fundraiser Legacy of Love and all gifts and donations will be evenly split between these 2 meaningful organizations.
We have and will continue to put our blood, sweat and tears into fundraising for MSK to combat these unfunded diseases. And with our special Legacy of Love wedding fundraiser, we also put our heart and soul into it. Months before Rebecca passed she casually mentioned to me that someday I'll meet Brett and realize that she is the "chosen one". As a result, our relationship has often been called a match made in heaven and it certainly feels like that to us.
We Love You,
Tom & Brett
