On December 14, 2019, after fighting as long and as hard as she possibly could, Rebecca lost her battle with mbc. We at The Cancer Couch continue to fight every day in her honor for all those battling mbc and the loved ones that support them. We continue to strongly believe 3 things that were near and dear to Rebecca, 1) there is still not enough funding for mbc research, 2) no family should ever be devastated by mbc, and 3) cures are possible. In 2026 we celebrated our 10 year anniversary and we are proud to report that The Cancer Couch has funded over $7,5000,000 in mbc research. Today we are the largest philanthropic donor to the mbc research lab we fund at Memorial Sloan Kettering and our researchers believe that we are on an accelerated path to cure certain variants of mbc!
It's been an incredible 10 years thanks to your love and support. Today The Cancer Couch is a global fundraiser with donors from 25 countries and all 50 states, but fundamentally we remain a grass roots organization that has literally been a part of hundreds of fundraisers. We've tried to capture some of the beautiful images from our 10 years and include them below. These events (that always put the Fun in Fundraising - just like our founder Rebecca Timlin-Scalera envisioned) included ice cream eating contests, flash mob MOMbies, swimming marathons, incredible golf fundraisers, baking challenges, professional soccer, hockey and baseball games, and high school soccer, basketball, softball, volleyball and lacrosse games. And we've hosted 8 sold out Cancer Beat concerts: CB1 The English Beat, CB2 Howard Jones, CB3 G Love & Special Sauce, CB4 The Wailers, CB5 The Wailers, CB6 Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze, CB7 John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band and CB8 Mat Kearney and we love all of you that attended especially those of you that went 8 for 8!
And lastly, we've been honored to be a part of so many personalized fundraising events in memory of loved ones we've lost to mbc. All of these special fundraising events are so meaningful to us and to our communities because they give us hope for a better future and with the Cancer Couch match - all these event proceeds have helped to further accelerate the pace of mbc research!
Thank you all so much - here's to 10 more years and millions more in mbc research.
